Ascent
Basic Rock Climbing

The EarthTraces
rock climbing course encourages participants to ascend beyond
what they had previously thought possible - in both their physical and spiritual
endeavors. By learning trust in their teammates and in themselves, they gain a renewed
respect for nature, the Earth, and for life itself. Basic skills and the underlying
philosophy are also taught locally, with hands-on climbing skills learned at a local
indoor climbing wall. The course culminates with a trip to one of several incredible rock
wall areas found in Southern Illinois.
| Like the rappelling
experience, persons of nearly any age can participate in the climbing course. The
use of
modern climbing technique and equipment, with a focus on safety, provides an exceptional
opportunity for growth.

Program Information
Open to beginners and
intermediate skill levels, ages 12 to 80. This adventure initiates participants in
basic rock
climbing technique and top rope belay training and their uses for maximum
safety.
The
Leap of Faith is a pre-requisite
program for The Ascent. Safety and belaying techniques are taught in the
LOF program.
